Peter M. McCarthy is the author of Adrenaline Nation: Chronic Stress is Ruining Our Health and Bankrupting Our Economy.
McCarthy holds a Doctorate in Traditional Naturopathy from Trinity College of Natural Health, and an M.A. in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University. He also chairs the nation’s largest state level natural health advocacy network, the Texas Health Freedom Coalition, and is a former member of the Advisory Committee of the American Naturopathic Certification Board and President of the Texas Complementary and Alternative Medical Association.
McCarthy is the CEO of Life Energy Holistic Partners, an integrative stress management and wellness consulting practice that he runs with his wife Nancy, and CEO of AHI Productions, a health-focused media company. Formerly, McCarthy served in the Air Force, where he flew B-52 bombers, was a flight instructor, and served as a staff officer at Air Force headquarters at the Pentagon and the Air Force Personnel Center in Texas. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty years of service.
McCarthy’s profile in the political arena has rapidly propelled him to the status of a national figure and expert on health care policy issues. As chair by acclamation of the Texas Health Freedom Coalition, he has molded his group of Texas grass roots activists into a powerful political force that is recognized nationally as not only the largest, but one of the most influential, alternative health state advocacy organizations of the last half century.
A well-known expert in the field of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), McCarthy meets frequently with political leaders of both major parties at both the state and national level and with heads of industry to discuss the issues of CAM as they relate to public interest, health care practices, and law. He has provided key testimony at several hearings during the 2007, 2009 and 2011 Texas legislative sessions, which materially and positively affected the outcome of these hearings to the betterment of the Texas Health Freedom Coalition’s goals. His expertise has resulted in his being widely sought after as a speaker and workshop leader across the country.
In recognition of his formidable leadership and organizational skills, McCarthy was asked by the leadership of the National Health Freedom Coalition to advise them on the composition of and agenda for the inaugural session of the National Health Freedom Congress, held in Chicago, Illinois in June 2012. The Congress brought together over 100 national and international health freedom leaders with the goal of creating an integrated strategy to advance health freedom of choice, both nationally and internationally. McCarthy is one of 40 voting members of the Congress, representing the Texas Health Freedom Coalition.
